Introduction to Editing course at Rutgers

I've been tapped to run a two-day Introduction to Editing workshop at Rutgers. Over two Saturdays -- November 3rd and 10th -- you'll learn proofreaders marks, what are the various editorial functions (line editing, copyediting, proofreading, etc.), the most common problems of grammar and syntax, how to edit a writer's tone, and how to earn the writer's trust.

If you're looking to break into publishing or media, you should look into this course. And if you simply need to understand some basics to better accomplish your job -- for example, if you have to revise and approve employees' proposals before they go out the door -- you should also look into the course. The listing will be on the Rutgers Writing Program Extension's site in a week or so, but you can also contact me for more info.

Covering the Warped Tour

I'll be covering the Warped Tour's stop in Englishtown, NJ this weekend for Premiere. Not sure what to expect in the press area, but I'm looking to get time with Coheed and Cambria, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and The Starting Line. Not exactly my cup of tea, but Warped is a well-organized event that you can feel safe sending your teenager to. No drugs or drunks, no violence (outside of the mosh pits). I can't say I'm looking forward to the show, but I am looking forward to the event.

New Project

Just started work on a general-interest parenting book by Chris Vella, a longtime friend and child psychologist who works with troubled kids. Can't tell you the title -- that's the special sauce. We're going to be assembling a proposal this week and looking to shop to agents and publishers.

Splitwood Beach

I've posted a sample chapter of my novel in progress, Splitwood Beach, at AndrewMRichter.com. If I can just buckle down, I think it's got real potential.

Easy come, easy go?

I have a friend, Erik, who recently left his longtime position at Getty Images for a significant salary bump at a smaller company. Only to be let go a week and a half after starting his new job. Do you need someone to manage your videos or images? Write about music and entertainment? Or provide voiceover work? Erik is a professional DJ who turns up often on WRAT in New Jersey and has been on Sirius satellite radio in the past. If you think you could use someone like Erik, get in touch with me -- my contact info is on AndrewMRichter.com -- and I'll put you in touch with him.

Promotion

Some of you may have heard that I just was promoted to News Editor at Premiere Radio. Though my responsibilities will not change significantly, my boss made it clear that the move is in appreciation for my hard work, dedication and expertise. Check out the samples page on AndrewMRichter.com to see what he's talking about.

Friends and Family Discount

If you got my recent E-mail about my website, that means you're someone I have a personal (as opposed to professional) relationship with. I'll do any kind of editing for you at $20/hr. That also applies to anyone you refer to me directly. E-mail me at amrichter@yahoo.com.

Thanks!
